About Me

Hi, I'm Sarah! I am based out of Coralville, Iowa.
I've been photographing for 20 years, and I can't seem to stop. I especially love natural light photography (no flash, no LEDs, no lightboxes), which is difficult to do when you like taking pictures of tiny little bugs and mushrooms! My passion is documenting nature, and applying the lessons I've learned to people photography - events, portraits, and more. Capturing life as it happens and portraying those moments faithfully is what I do.
I'm not interested in editing real life to be bland and palatable. Instead, I'm interested in portraying the fullness of life in the best light possible, whether the subject is a mushroom, your family and the dog, or a carefully planned event. I strive to create photos that you will love enough to hang in your home, either as a nature photo print or a family portrait!

Looking for other services such as product, real estate, brand, or editorial photography? Please message me with inquiries.
I spend much of my time volunteering for local nonprofits, and I'm also the president of one, so I know firsthand how difficult it can be to afford good event photography on a limited budget. I offer pay-what-you can options for low-income clients, small nonprofits, and families facing hardship. Please contact me for more details!

North American Mycological Association - Visual Arts Contest 2025
This photo is titled "Sulcate Sunhead" - the common name for Heliocybe sulcata. I captured this photo in western Iowa, after I and four other volunteers from the Prairie States Mushroom Club led seven events over the course of three days. The soft morning sun was peeking over the loess hills just as we were leaving, creating a subtle dreamy glow.
It was the winner for the Photography - Documentary category of the 2025 NAMA Visual Arts Contest.
